Best Full Coverage Drugstore Foundation

March 17, 2016
MIlani Conceal + Perfect Foundation

I finally found my favorite drugstore full coverage foundation and it’s by none other than, Milani Cosmetics. It’s part of their new Spring 2016 collection and it’s called, Conceal + Perfect 2-in-1 Foundation. Initially, I doubted it would live up to its name because I almost always find issues with drugstore full coverage foundations. Either they aren’t easily blendable, are dry patchy and/or appear way too heavy. But for the past couple of years, Milani has really impressed me with each new product launch. I’m already a lover of their baked eyeshadows, bronzers and lip pencils so I knew that I had to try this foundation out.

Combat under eye circles, redness, and other skin imperfections with this full coverage, water-resistant foundation plus concealer in one. A no-mess, no-drip pump dispenses just the right amount of fluid needed to achieve a flawless look and works around the clock to keep skin looking naturally perfect!

My Thoughts

First off, the bottle is so legit. I feel like it looks like it could be a part of Kylie Jenner’s makeup collection. I also love that unlike many drugstore foundations, this comes in the form of a pump. Most foundations don’t, and they are so messy and you end up wasting so much product because too much inevitably comes. The pump on this foundation is especially nice because you can literally squeeze out the tiniest amount.

I can say, probably for the first time, that a drugstore product truly lives up to its promises. Even though I think that it’s more of a medium coverage, it is buildable and will conceal your imperfections if applied right. After applying one layer, the redness on my cheeks, around my nose, mouth and eyes were virtually gone. It evened out my skin tone and the finish wasn’t heavy or cakey. As their website states, to conceal problem areas apply a small amount of product in a dabbing motion until blended (TIP: Using your fingers is the best tool to use because it warms up the product and). The few blemishes I had were virtually invisible (except for a larger, raised blemish that was playing me!). Make sure to apply a little product at a time, and add more problem areas if needed.

I have combination skin, dry on the perimeter, oily in the T-zone. The formula surprisingly worked great with both issues. As with all cream or liquid products, I did have to set it with loose powder. This step is important because it aids in oil control, seals your makeup, and provides a surface that allows you to easily apply bronzer, blush, etc. The best part about it is that your skin still looks like skin!

Ok, it’s the best drugstore foundation I’ve tried so far, but it’s not perfect. Generally, when applying a full coverage foundation it’s best to buff it in using a foundation brush to prevent it from looking too heavy or cakey. In this case, I’ve tried both a Beauty Blender and buffing brush. With a brush, it was more like a medium coverage. I prefer to apply it with a Beauty Blender because I think it is more full coverage when dabbed on the skin.  Although it’s thick, it doesn’t appear that way. If you prefer using a brush, you can first apply it with a brush and then dab on more product where you need more coverage.

My only other issue is that they don’t have a shade that matches my skin tone. I need a mixture of Light Beige and Warm Beige to get the perfect shade. On the other hand, I can customize my shade according to the seasons. I can also apply Warm Beige to the perimeter and Light Beige to the middle of my face to create dimension similar to contouring. So it actually works out! Like how I did that?! Hehe. (TIP: Keep in mind when choosing your shade that like many foundations, the formula slightly oxidizes (becomes darker) after application.)

Overall, I am obsessed with this foundation and highly recommend it. The coverage is amazing without looking too heavy. And for $10, it’s definitely worth trying. Often at CVS Pharmacy, you’ll find it on sale – buy one, get one half-off…score! If you’ve tried this foundation already, I’d love to hear your thoughts. xo Sarah
