Best Leggings For The Versatile Woman

January 26, 2016

Leggings have been the go-to pants for women of all ages for several years now. Their comfort and forgiveness are unmatched! Not to mention, they make us feel skinnier and allow us to eat as much as we want. I haven’t had much luck with “fashion” leggings, so I’ve been wearing active wear instead because I find that they are thicker, darker, don’t fade and hold their shape better. Nonetheless, I felt that it was time to expand my horizons and go on the hunt for the best fashion leggings I could find. After doing some research online, I went and checked out the most popular ones in person to see if they lived up to their reviews. And of course, I tried to find the most budget-friendly options, but keep in mind that in this case, you get what you pay for!

My criteria:

  • True black
  • Comfortable
  • Form-fitting
  • Mid-to-high-rise (Hit under the belly button or higher)
  • Don’t lose their shape
  • Don’t fade (Although you must follow the care instructions!)
  • Aren’t see-through
  • Don’t slip down

I found seven styles that I feel meet the above criteria, hope you enjoy my darlings! xo Sarah

Yummie by Heather Thomson Rachel Cotton Blend Leggings

Yummie by HT

$49.50 (Regular and plus-size). XS-XL (0-16) Regular and plus size; Only comes in black.

I am obsessed with these leggings! They hit at such a flattering part of the waist, are so comfortable, and would look so cute with a crop top (think Gigi Hadid and Kendal Jenner). She also makes a cool coated version, Tommy Compact Moto Leggings, and I’m so excited to try them once they have my size back in stock!

Lysse Control Top Leggings

Lysse Control Top Leggings

$60. S-XL (Runs small, order up); Colors: Black & Eclipse Melange

These are also control top and high-waisted. I love the way they fit and feel, but they look like they may fade if you don’t follow the care instructions.

Two by Vince Camuto Seamed Back Leggings

Vince Camuto

$49. XS-XL (0-16); XXS-LP (00-12) Fits best on women 5’4″ and under; 3 colors: Rich Black, Dark Heather Grey, & Espresso

These are great dress up leggings with a seam that runs down the back of the leg accentuating the slim fit. They run pretty big, so make sure to try one size smaller.

David Lerner Basic Leggings, $90

David Lerner Basic Leggings

$90, now $67.50. XXS-XXL

Probably one of the most popular designers of a variety of leggings. His basic legging is great mid-rise option that doesn’t have side seams!

Blank Denim Mid Rise Vegan Leather Leggings

$98. 24-32; handwash

These hot, true-to-size vegan leggings are everything! They are mid-rise and have more of a cropped ankle cut than most leggings.  My favorite thing about them is you can dress them up or down. The only downside is that they are handwash or dry clean only, but luckily most washing machines have a hand wash option these days.

JCREW Pixie Pant

$88. 00-16 also available in a short length version (YAY!) dry clean

A work appropriate, travel-friendly legging that will soon be your go-to favorite! Great for women who are looking for more of a polished look, without sacrificing comfort. The care instructions state that they are dry clean only, but many of the reviews online indicate that the delicate cycle works just fine.
