Carli Bybel x BH Cosmetics Palette Review

October 13, 2015

I recently got my hands on the BH Cosmetics x Carli Bybel palette. If you don’t already know, Carli is a Youtube sensation, with almost 3.5 million subscribers! I think she has such a huge following because she’s always so positive, super sweet and knows how to slay a face. Needless to say, I was excited to finally test out her palette.

Here’s what you get:

The palette is only $12.50 and comes with 10 eyeshadows (4 matte shades, 6 shimmery shades) and 4 highlighters. The highlighters can be used on the eyes and face.

Product features:

  • Vegan
  • Paraben free
  • Non-irritating
  • Allergy tested
  • Clinically tested
  • Cruelty free product

The shadows and highlighters come in a cardboard palette with a magnetic closure. It has a decent sized mirror for those who do makeup on the go. Of course under the mirror it says, “aspire to inspire,” a very cute Carli touch. Another nice detail is the flower decal pressed into the highlighters. Overall, the quality isn’t very luxe, but considering that it’s only $12.50, I can see why. They did their best!

Color Range

The palette is a mixture of warm and cool tones. They don’t have names but this is what I would call each shade (starting from top left):

  • Matte cream
  • Pink/rose gold shimmer
  • Matte mauve
  • Matte deep mauve
  • Matte dark plum
  • Champagne shimmer
  • Gold shimmer
  • Brown shimmer
  • Copper shimmer
  • Matte dark ash brown

  • Light pink shimmer highlighter
  • Champagne shimmer highlighter
  • Gold shimmer highlighter
  • Deep gold/bronze highlighter

You an create a range of pretty soft day looks to more dramatic evening looks. The 4 highlighters cater to all skin tones, light, medium and dark skin; ranging from light pink champagne to dark a dark golden color. They are amazing! Honestly, I’m slightly obsessed with them. I have medium skin tone and I can wear the darkest highlighter as a bronzer for a beautiful golden glow – think JLo! Overall, the palette definitely compliments all skin tones. Check out Carli’s youtube video to see swatches of the entire palette.

The matte and shimmer shades have different textures. The matte shades are soft, but feel dry and slightly chalky. The shimmer eye shadows and highlighters have a bit of a buttery texture. However, both are pretty dry especially in comparison to other popular reasonably priced shadows. With that said, they do glide onto the skin very smoothly which makes application very easy.

Pigment & Blendability

Again, the matte and shimmer shadows (and highlighters) differ in pigmentation. The matte shades are very light and don’t really pack a punch, you really need to build the color. On the other hand, the shimmer shades are more pigmented. Simply dab some on your lid with your ring finger for the best results. To intensify the look, apply the shimmer shades wet with something like, MAC Prep + Prime Fix Plus.

Blendablity gets an A+! All the shadows blend so nicely onto the skin. I thought because of drier texture, the eye shadows might be a bit blotchy and require a lot of blending. That is definitely not the case. I think this palette is great for those that are still working on mastering their smokey eye skills or are just in a rush. I created a soft smokey eye in less than 5 minutes using all 4 matte shadows and 1 of the shimmery shades.

Staying Power

You definitely need to use a primer with these shadows to improve color pay off and wear. I would say with a primer, they last 4-5 hours. When I tested out the shadows and highlighter, I worked out 3 hours after application, and the look only faded slightly.

I think this is a beautiful palette and a great addition to your makeup kit. I would get it for the highlighters alone! Yes, they are that good. I’m really impressed by how well the colors blend together without much effort at all and create a seamless gradient. And for $12.50, it’s a steal!
