I finally got my hands on the new CoverFX Custom Custom Cover Drops ($44, Available at Sephora)! I’ve heard only amazing things about this product, so I had to try it and let you guys know if it’s worth all the hype. So it’s 100% pure pigment that allows you to customize your coverage from sheer to total coverage. I’m assuming that by total coverage, they mean that the product can cover any skin issues such as acne or rosacea.
These revolutionary drops feature our Flash Fusion Technology formula, so as soon as you drop, the solution flashes off leaving behind the pigment that weightlessly transforms your favorite beauty product into the sheerest tint all the way to a total coverage foundation, depending on how many drops you add. The pigments are coated with Lecithin, which is biochemically similar to the skin, to ensure ease of blending and the smoothest application.
The drops are made for all skin types and can be mixed with anything liquid to add coverage whether they are water or silicone-based: moisturizers, serums, oils, primers, foundations, and tinted moisturizers. Cool, right? Available in 24 shades, you can customize the drops to any type of coverage you desire eliminating the need for multiple foundations with different coverages and finishes (i.e. luminous or matte). So if you have dry skin, you can mix it with a rich moisturizer and if you have oily skin like me, you can mix it with a mattifying primer for some serious oil control. And if you’re a makeup artist, having the ability to create client-specific coverage is a dream come true. Sounds like a game changer to me!
The drops do not contain the following:
- synthetic fragrances
- synthetic dyes

How To Mix The Custom Cover Drops
Ladies, there are no rules, you can mix it up however you like! And that’s why this product received Allure Magazine’s Breakthrough Award in 2015. But I won’t leave you hanging without a little guidance. The CoverFX website states the following:
- 1 Drop = Sheer Coverage
- 2 Drops = Medium Coverage
- 3 Drops = Full Coverage
- 4 Drops = Total Coverage
The question is, how much of your preferred beauty product do you mix with one drop to get sheer, medium, full, and total coverage? The amount of product (moisturizer, primer, oil, etc.) you want to use is the amount that is just enough to cover your entire face and neck. After testing out the product, I found that one drop is more like medium coverage, than sheer. I would suggest using half of a drop if you would like sheer coverage and one-and-a-half drops for medium coverage and so forth. A little trial and error is necessary to figure out what works for you.
How to apply: Place the product on the back of your hand, then add however many drops you wish and mix together with a tool or your finger. Now it’s ready for application! Use either a Beauty Blender, flat kabuki or buffing brush to achieve the most natural finish.
When I used the drops, I mixed one drop with a mattifying moisturizer. I didn’t use a setting powder because I wanted to see what the wear was throughout the day. The result was beautiful – my skin tone evened out, and the finish was matte, just how I wanted. What I love most about it is how it leaves your skin feeling like skin, and it’s so lightweight, similar to the feeling of using a BB cream. I usually start to get shiny in my T-zone within an hour of applying my makeup no matter what products I use. With the drops, after 1 hour my skin looked glowy and luminous and that never happens. I was shocked! It wasn’t until 2 hours later that I started to look a but shiny. I still need to play with it and figure out the best products to mix with it for my skin. But overall, I am a huge fan and I’m excited to try this on my clients. I think it is a revolutionary product since you can cater the coverage and finish to whatever you want. Perhaps you prefer less coverage during the day, or your skin is dry during the Winter, this one product can be used to address any preferences and all skin types. So go and get it asap! And if you don’t want to commit, you can always ask for a sample. You will not be disappointed.
