How To Look Chic In Winter Layers

Let’s keep it real, winter in LA is a joke. As I’m sitting down writing this, it’s 82 degrees outside. But that doesn’t mean we don’t love warm coats or chunky knits. It’s embarrassing how many coats and furry jackets I currently have hanging in my closet. Luckily, I run cold so I don’t always have to fake it. During my recent trip to New York, I had to get creative on ways to dress stylishly in near frigid temps. It’s definitely a challenge to avoid looking like a blob – haha – when wearing so many winter layers. Trust me, I’ve been there. I truly admire those girls that make it look so effortless. It doesn’t come that easily to me, but I definitely can share some tips with you that I use to…

I belt everything! Dresses, blazers, cardigans…you name it. Not only is it ultra chic but it also cinches the waist. Win-win! I especially love to wear a high waist belt in the winter because it gives you a feminine silhouette which is much needed when wearing so many layers. Without a belt over my chenille sweater dress, it would look very bulky and loose.

I buy most of my belts from Asos because they have a variety of high waist belts. But I also wear regular belts high on my waste by looping the end around the actual belt. And because there isn’t a whole to fasten it (since the belt is meant to sit lower on your waist), I push the metal piece to the side. If you look closely, you can see how easily you can do it.

I love the look of mixing different textures together. Velvet, silk, leather, lace, wool…the options are endless. One of my favorite combos is wearing a silk dress with a chunky knit. It’s also a great way of extending your Summer wardrobe, by mixing lighter fabrics with heavier ones.

When in doubt, stick to the same color family. But if you love color and have more of a playful style, color blocking is always fun too! As you can see, black and white is a safe bet. You can always add a pop of color with your bag or shoes.

In my book, turtleneck = chic. Wear it as the base of your winter outfit under a Summer dress, sweater, jumpsuit. You will instantly look chic and also stay surprisingly warm!

One of my go-to wardrobe pieces for an elevated Winter look is leather leggings. Whether real or faux, you get instant attitude and defy the cold in style. And no matter what your style is, you can rock ’em. If you can wear it with your skinny jeans, you can wear them with leather leggings.

Hope this was helpful loves. As always thanks for stopping by… xx Sarah
