Wedding season is in full swing, which is both sweet and sour. Sweet because who doesn’t love love? Why sour? You’re facing the daunting task of deciding what to wear. Shopping for the right dress can be difficult if you don’t do away with all of your preconceived notions…the biggest one being that you can only wear the dress once. If Kate Middleton can wear the same dress twice (or more), so can you. I shared a similar post with you last year, but let’s recap on the best way to shop for wedding guest dresses…
1 ALWAYS BE ON THE LOOKOUT
Often times we find beautiful dresses when we’re not looking. Take advantage of that! Many times they’re on sale too. The take away? Don’t start looking when you need a dress. When you least expect it, you’ll find a gem (that you’ll want to wear more than once!).
2 SET A BUDGET
Set a budget and stick to it. If you’re shopping online, filter your search results to match your budget. It’s easier than you think since most sites have a tool where you can refine your search. For example, you can have the results shown from lowest to highest price or the highest amount your willing to spend and under.
3 KEEP IT CLASSIC AND TIMELESS
Avoid anything too trendy and stick to classic and timeless pieces…that way you will more than likely wear it again! Think simple silhouettes or even two piece sets you can mix and match. Plus you can always change up the vibe of the dress with statement jewelry, shoes, and/or bags. One of my favorite things to do is to throw on leather moto jacket (and or booties) and you’ve instantly changed your look from wedding day to street style. Another great tip is to buy a dress you can tailor short so you maximize the wear. You can even do that with something you already own and reinvent it!
Exception: If it’s a jumpsuit! If you really want to stand out but in the most subtle of ways, go with this new elegant trend. Best part is, you will most definitely wear it over and over again.
4 SHOP ONLINE
Why not utilize the best resource from the comfort of your home? Shopping online opens you up to so many boutiques that you don’t have physical access to or that only have an online presence. Just make sure to check their return policy. No free returns, no go!
5 RENTING IS YOUR FRIEND
Something borrowed is not only for brides. Renting is a great alternative to buying and can be very budget friendly. One of my favorite rental services is Rent the Runway. They have an amazing selection of designer gowns and cocktail dresses. The process is quite simple and they’ll even send multiple sizes if you’re unsure about the fit. And you get 20% off your first order!
With those tips in mind, I went on the hunt and found some amazing options, both formal and informal. Just bear in mind that I am Persian, and we tend to err on the side of formal! Hope you find that perfect dress (or jumpsuit) that will make the special celebration that much sweeter! xo Sarah
